At WES, we strive to support students not just academically but socially, emotionally, and physically too. Learning and growth happen on all kinds of levels at school, and we know that challenges are best met when kids feel supported and guided through them. Teachers, of course, are a key part of that learning and support.

The Care Team

In addition, we have a “Care Team” at WES (pictured left), composed of Principal Maggie Mills, Nurse Kelly Schulz, Counselor Jess Stout, Assistant Principal Lori Beland, and SEL Specialist Sandy Marino.

We meet as a team on a regular basis to address student needs and concerns, we consult with teachers to provide support and develop plans, and we work directly with students to meet their goals and reach their fullest potential.

Interventions we help with include:

  • Social skills/friendship groups

  • Emotional literacy and regulation skill building

  • Emotional support

  • Movement/body breaks

  • Targeted behavior plans and positive reinforcement plans to support school rules

  • Conflict processing, relationship repair, and restorative circles

  • Health lessons

We are intentional about building a culture of belonging at school. We are guided by this priority in the work that we do: in the relationships we form with students and in the relationships we work to promote within the school community at large. Families are a part of that community too! We encourage caregivers to reach out to us any time with questions or concerns, and with any insights as to how we can best support your amazing kids!
