We are an inclusive, play-based early childhood program serving children ages 3–5 within the Mountain Views Supervisory Union (MVSU). Our community includes the towns of Woodstock, Reading, Pomfret, Barnard, Bridgewater, Plymouth, and Pittsfield.

Our Educational Philosophy

  • Learning Through Play: We focus on self-directed play that inspires natural inquiry, problem-solving, and collaboration. Teachers guide and scaffold activities around each child’s unique interests.

  • Mindfulness & Social Growth: Children practice daily mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and gentle yoga to develop self-awareness, empathy, fairness, and kindness.

  • Nature & Stewardship: Outdoor exploration is core to our curriculum. Students spend time each week hiking, discovering, and caring for our gardens, outdoor play spaces, and local forests.

  • Community & Inclusion: We build strong classroom traditions and agreements centered on equity, as well as care for ourselves the world around us.

    Maddie has joined the WES community after graduating with a Youth Development and Education degree from Plymouth State University in 2021. She began her professional career working in New Hampshire as an elementary school paraeducator, as well as volunteering her time at a local after school program called, the Pemi Youth Center. These experiences are where Maddie learned the importance in creating a safe community and classroom environment for everyone.  Maddie brings her positivity as well as her love and passion for motivating children to learn, grow and be kind to others.

    Jacquelyn piloted the Woodstock PreK program in 2018, soon after moving to Woodstock. She has spent nearly 15 years  as an early-childhood educator. She began her work with young children  at the Eliot-Pearson Children's School at Tufts University where she focused on children's emotional wellness, inclusion, and anti-bias  education during both her graduate and undergraduate studies. Jacquelyn spent several years in  developing a love of nature-based and project-based learning in while working in Thetford, VT  where she taught in a multi-age K/1 classroom before moving with her daughter to Woodstock. With every new group of young learners, Jacquelyn strives to create a compassionate and collaborative learning community where children feel valued and supported in their development, explorations, and play. In her free time, Jacquelyn loves trying out new outdoor activities- this year it is mountain biking!

    Gennory Viljanen (Ms. G) | Pre-K Assistant

    Gennory joined the Woodstock Elementary School community during the 2020-2021 school year. She previously worked for the Newhall School District in Santa Clarita, CA, as a bilingual coordinator for English Language Learners and is now proud to support the PreK children and families at WES. She loves using elements of surprise and creative details to spotlight her students' work. Originally from Costa Rica, Gennory lends Spanish speaking enrichment opportunities in the classroom. Her creativity provides a unique space to nurture student growth and interpersonal connection.  In her free time, she loves to take road trips around New England and listen to opera music. She is honored to call Woodstock home and to be a part of this wonderful community.

    Cindy has been a part of the WES community for more than ​16 years, as a parent and serving as the playground and recess supervisor for the past 5 years where she cared for our natural play spaces and helped to facilitate children's play. Cindy was trained at Johnson State College and taught second grade in the upper valley before joining WES as both a parent and educator. She brings her love of nature, art,  imagination, music, and Waldorf-inspired storytelling to her work with young children. Cindy's work with children embodies a respect for children's natural development and curiosities and the value of nature and imagination in helping children construct meaning of the world around them.
